Julie,

Thank you for the information.  We have a few hotspots and modems that we got for free from Sprint.  Usage of each of the 15 lines is free to us because we lease part of our Educational Broadband Spectrum to Sprint.  Up until now we have reserved the hotspots for employee use only (usually administrators and faculty), but I'm sure some of our students would like to use them, too.  I'll check on the Verizon option and talk to Sprint to see what they might offer.

Hi Tammy,

The hot spot device is free and each line (similar to a phone line) is 39.99 per month. We have a state contract with Verizon (Western State Contract Alliance #1907) and our Verizon rep is very helpful (Aisha Davis 206-462-9963 aisha.davis at vzw.com<mailto:aisha.davis at vzw.com> ). My understanding is the WSCA is key to a better rate.

In terms of hot spot funding, we started with three hot spots that were grant-funded and since the grant ended we increased the quantity of  hot spots and our Student Life and Involvement Center funds our hot spots entirely.

How do you pay for the use of your hotspots?  Is there a monthly charge like for a cell phone?

We have 21 Dell Latitude 3340 laptops and 17 hot spots that circulate on a first come, first serve basis for a week. Also, we have a hot spot waitlist since they are in such high demand.

Hello all.
You have all been super helpful in sharing your various laptop lending/renting information in the past and I have a new and improved question about this process. How do you determine eligibility or priority for laptop lending? Meaning, is there a certain population of students who are higher priority or have first pass at using a laptop? How do you determine that? Or perhaps you don't at all and it is simply first come, first served?
We are gearing up for a lending program at RTC and this input would be greatly appreciated.
