[LIBRARYDIR] Accessibility and NWCCU draft standards

My one addition to this conversation, is to observe that there also seems to be lacking any mention of Learning Support Services to our students.

n The closest is 2.F.1, which speaks to "effective learning environments...", which I first read to mean decent classrooms, or well-designed online classes-but if you have to work that hard to shoe-horn tutoring in, I'd say it needs to be more explicit.

n Compare that to 2.F.6, which more explicitly calls out and defines advising,

n or 2.F.4 about financial aid offerings.

Subject: [LIBRARYDIR] Accessibility and NWCCU draft standards

Greetings all,

The standards have not addressed technology accessibility, so this is a good time to get it on their radar. There had been two headings, one for Physical Infrastructure and Technology Infrastructure that are now merged together. (Note: the revised standard does not actually say ANYTHING about technology.)

At OC, we have been looking at the draft NWCCU standards and are planning to recommend adding accessibility for people with disabilities into the only standard left.

Current draft standard under Physical and Technology Infrastructure:

2.H.1 Consistent with its mission, the institution creates and maintains physical facilities that are accessible, safe, secure, and sufficient in quantity and quality to ensure healthful learning and working environments that support the institution's mission, programs, and services.

Recommendation:

2.H.1 Consistent with its mission, the institution creates and maintains physical facilities and electronic information technology that are available, accessible for people with disabilities, safe, secure, and sufficient in quantity and quality to ensure healthful learning and working environments that support the institution's mission, programs, and services.

Thanks,

Erica
