BC does not have a film club that I’m aware of, but we have a partnership between the library and a film course.
They teach the course, we show the film.
We consider this course-related.

All our publicly announced and available movie screenings are put on by our ASG/Campus Life and they use Swank and others, similar to Mindy’s message.

Though we didn’t find details that felt satisfactory through our online research (and we did not consult any copyright lawyers), we have done some research on fair use for screenings and it seems like showing a movie to a group for a specific academic purpose (even if extra-curricular) in a private space (like the library classroom) would fall under fair use.

Our Student Activities pays for public performance rights.  I can try to find out what organization they use.

We have a group of students who want to form a movie club.  I’m concerned this would be outside of “fair use” and require them to pay for performance rights.  Anybody else have a movie club on their campus?
