Looking for a webinar on OER topics during Open Ed Week but one from within your own Washington neighborhood? You're in luck!

The Open Education work group from the Library Leadership Council of Washington is starting what we hope to be a series of webinars profiling promising projects, presentations, and even squirrel-y challenges from librarians doing OER work around the state of Washington.

Mark your calendars: We will have our first webinar during Open Education Week on Friday, March 8 from 1-2 p.m.Presentations will be in the form of 10-minute lightning talks, back-to-back, followed by a time for Q&A.

The presenters will be:

  * Greg Bem, Lake Washington Institute of Technology: Greg is one of two faculty librarians at Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech), also serving as the Library Coordinator. He has supported the school’s OER Core Team since it was formed two years ago, and has been exploring open access and open education since 2012. Along with Sue Wozniak, Greg is currently investigating the efficacy of open access databases (via the WACTCLC), as well as the integration of open pedagogy in three LWTech courses (via the 2019 Assessment in Action (AiA) grant).
  * Rowena McKernan, Whatcom Community College: Rowena is an Open Educational Resources Specialist at Whatcom Community College. She is currently managing the campus’ Open Textbook Library which runs on Pressbooks and is investigating the use of open source technologies to support accessible information literacy on campus.
  * Boyoung Chae, SBCTC: Boyoung is a Policy Associate of eLearning and Open Education at the Washington State Board for Community & Technical Colleges (SBCTC). Boyoung received her PhD in Instructional Technology from the University of Georgia and her MS in Instructional Systems from the Pennsylvania State University. She led the development of several state-wide OER initiatives, such as Open Course Library<http://opencourselibrary.org/> and Open Washington<http://www.openwa.org/>. Recently, with her SBCTC colleague Mark Jenkins, she co-authored an OER research report<https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4eZdZMtpULyZC1NRHMzOEhRRzg/view?pli=1> awarded the Open Education Consortium’s Open Research Award for Open Education Excellence, and a book chapter<http://unesdoc.unesco.org/images/0024/002443/244365e.pdf> for UNESCO.

More details about the presentations will follow closer to the date. Zoom details for the meeting are below. I will send out a reminder with more information again as the time draws near, but please mark your calendars now!
