[LIBRARYDIR] Proposed LLC Bylaws changes for fall meeting

Thank you all for your comments.  I wasn’t sure when the officer transition took place.  Melinda suggested July 1 but I’ll change it back to the end of the spring meeting to follow past practices.

I can change the webhost and webmaster positions to appointed positions to serve an indefinite term and to be filled as needed.  Should they be appointed by the Chair, the Executive Board, or approved by the members?

I agree with Lynn’s suggestion to change the reference to the Team Drive and will do that.

Is there an original charge from IC regarding the formation of LMDC/LLC and does it mention media services?  I’m okay with removing reference to media on the assumption that it is part of library services.  Not all of us have responsibility for eLearning and there is a separate eLearning Council, so I don’t think it would be appropriate to add that.

Other comments before I send out a revised draft?

Media services is already a past function at most libraries; we have reorged at BC and integrated our new ‘multimedia’ positions into elearning.
This is an opportunity to make a change or cut the language altogether, IMHO.

The wording seems nice and functional to me, and rereading “media services” makes me wonder, philosophically, how long we’ll have “media services” in our vocabulary.

Here’s a little more trouble (but good questions, Jennifer): I recommend making the reference to “Google Team Drive” more generic so that we don’t have to revise the bylaws just to change where we store our stuff. Perhaps this language:

The Webmasters shall maintain and update the Council’s public website as well as oversee the structure and organization of the Council’s private electronic information.

Tammy, how are the webmasters and webhosts appointed?  The wording now seems to indicate that they’ll be elected with the other officers.

Also, past practice is that the out-going chair gives up the gavel at the end of the Spring meeting rather than July 1.  The new chair’s first act, at the end of the spring meeting, is to discuss the next year’s meetings.  I’m not opposed to a change, but it is a change.

Thanks for getting these written up and disseminated!  Am I causing trouble?

At the spring LLC meeting suggestions were made to amend the bylaws, but we were not able to get them ready in time for the summer meeting.  So we’re trying again for fall.

Attached is a copy of the proposed bylaws with suggested amendments redlined.  The primary purpose of the amendments was to add positions of webhost and webmasters but not make them part of the executive committee.  I think I’ve worded the changes to accomplish that.  There also seemed to be some confusion about the time of transition for elected officials this year, so in consultation with Melinda, I added a section under voting to indicate when the new officers take office.

These proposed changes are being sent out at least two weeks in advance of our meeting as required in the bylaws.  Please review them in advance of the meeting and be prepared to discuss and/or approve them on Monday afternoon.  If you have suggestions before this coming Monday, let me know and I can send out a new proposal on Monday and still meet the deadline.  Thanks for your time.
