[LIBRARYDIR] Newsbank and next steps

Thank you so much for allowing me to attend your meeting in Longview. It was such a pleasure to reconnect with many of you and to be part of your group. I am sorry I couldn't stay longer, but I am very appreciative of getting time on your full agenda.

I wanted to follow up on one thing I mentioned to make sure that I was clear. Regarding Newsbank and the opportunity we have to test their Washington newspaper collection, along with their national newspaper collection, in a package they will offer us starting July 1, 2018. The State Library will pay a one-time flat fee of $100K in order to offer this free content for a year to libraries in WA.

We are working with Newsbank to give us a complete picture of the pricing for three years, for those interested in subscribing after the trial. As I mentioned, they promised, as part of a statewide purchasing agreement, to step the pricing up each year for three years until we reach their going rate. Because of this effort of working out the stepped-up pricing, they are working slowly through all the library types in WA. The first round will be publics and the 4+ year academics, including private colleges. Community colleges are next on their list. I hope we will have pricing to share with you and the opportunity to invite you into the free trial before fall, 2018.
