[LIBRARYDIR] checking out R-rated movies to minors

Hi Cheyenne,

We do not have a policy on checking out library materials to young students.  I know the college has talked about Running Start students in general (especially around the Human Sexuality class), and we don't restrict access.  (In the case of the H.S. class, the instructor provides a note to parents of RS students alerting them that there will be sexual content.)

I can't remember that the library faculty have discussed this topic, though I am certain we would agree that we do not limit access to any library materials based on age.

Quick question: If your library has films (DVD, Blu-Ray, VHS, Betamax (hahahahaha)) that you check out to patrons, how do you handle checking out R-Rated films to students under 17 years old (perhaps like Running Start students)?

And, bonus question, if you know how your local public library handles it, that would be helpful too.
