[LIBRARYDIR] help with staff classifications

Hi Cheyenne,

Since, like Renton Technical College, we came in through the K-12 system, our college does not follow the Wa. State Dept. of Personnel job class descriptions. We, too, have a Library Specialist, but no varying levels. I suspect that is why RTC still uses Library Specialist. We do have a job audit process. Here, if I wanted to propose a library specialist 2 position, it would need to include the classified union in the process.

To go on a tangent...when Initiative I-732 passed in about 2000 to give K-12 teachers and CTC instructors an automatic cost of living pay raise, it also included classified positions in the technical colleges, but not the community colleges (unfair for the cc classified staff). BTC unions are represented by the Washington Education Association. Are most other CC unions are under the AFL-CIO? This initiative has been suspended. Good morning all,
I am hoping y'all can help me out with something. I feel like one of my staff is perhaps under-classified and would like to approach our Human Resources folks about it, but I am having trouble finding a list or explanation of other library professional classifications. She is not a Librarian (no MLIS) and currently is a Specialist, but I am wondering if there are varying levels of Specialist like there is for Technicians. Where might I find this list of hierarchy and job descriptions?

Or if such a list doesn't exist, how do you determine the levels of your Technicians/Specialists at your colleges?
