[LIBRARYDIR] WA State Applied Baccalaureate Conference

the VPs from the BAS colleges meet at every IC meeting at 5pm on the Thursday of our 2-day meeting (the first day).  Anyone is welcome, so someone from the host college or a nearby college could come to that meeting, too.

I attend, and have my ears open for library opportunities, but would welcome company.   Its an open meeting.

there is a meeting tomorrow at Cascadia.    5pm in  Cascadia College North Creek Events Center.    The agenda is always posted on the SBCTC site - Instruction Commission - and then current and past meetings.

I hadn’t even been notified of this meeting – which indicates their thinking was not around library services.
I agree we should be on their agenda – I’ve been pushing hard with our BAS Coordinator re: a funding and staffing formula for this growth.

Cindy Walker, CBC’s Director for Applied Baccalaureate Development, is the main organizer of this conference. I asked her if they were planning to address library services. She said there wasn’t going to be any specific session but she could make sure the library is included in the student services discussions.

She also offered to have someone come to the next BAS director’s group meeting January 28th.  I think that would be great to get on their agenda. I’d like to make sure we have some discussions amongst ourselves first. Who would be interested in being part of that discussion to flesh out what we would like the BAS directors to know? And is anyone interested in being the representative at the January meeting? Cindy doesn’t know the location but it will be on the west side.

Given our discussions at the LLC meeting about BAS degrees, I thought you may be interested in this conference if you didn’t know about it already.    Since the registration is limited to four participants per college, you’ll want to check with your VPIs and/or BAS directors.  Our BAS director encouraged me to attend so I just registered.

There are sessions for student services so I am interested to see if the Library is mentioned.  I can also report out to the group.

Registration is now open for the third annual Washington State Applied Baccalaureate Conference.

This year the conference will be:

Tuesday, November 10, from 8:30 am-3:30 pm
South Seattle College Georgetown Campus

Deadline for registering: November 1

Due to space restrictions registration is limited to four participants per college so VPIs and/or BAS directors at each institution will want to coordinate registration efforts.
