Thanks, Jennifer. That will be fine for us. No doubt Spanish will be
an included language. I'll cross my fingers for Japanese, Korean, and
Mandarin, but Spanish is important for us.

Mindy

Thanks again to Shellie and Paula for following up on this. Tate Nunley
at ExLibris has let us know that they will add out-of-the-box
translation for the Primo interface at no additional cost. They note
that out-of-the-box means one of the languages already translated,
without customizations. I'm afraid that I don't know which languages
those are.

For those who have already implemented, we just need to put in a support
case requesting the additional feature. For those now implementing or
implementing in future, just tell the project coordinator, Barb. For
you, Mindy, Tate has asked Barb to specifically contact you.

Thanks,
Jennifer

I heartily agree, Jennifer. We have struggled to get everyone at
ExLibris to understand that those libraries who chose/choose to acquire
Primo/SFX are not a "consortium," but rather individual libraries
exercising an option to make that acquisition under the Washington State
CTC optional use contract. Hence, we included language in the contract
amendment that stipulates that each library would be billed separately,
not ORCA's fiscal agent. We need to keep reminding them of this
distinction whenever it comes up.

Shellie has contacted ExL with this question (i.e. language
translation), so as soon as she receives a response we will share it
with everyone.

Thanks for initiating the question, Mindy...and for your follow-up,
Jennifer!

Mindy, I find the phrasing troubling, but maybe I'm being too picky. We
don't have a consortium-we have an optional use contract amendment, and
so "the consortium" didn't purchase anything at all. And I don't
remember that that the translation service option came up in the
negotiation of the contract amendment at all. I don't think that it was
deliberately rejected.

It seems to me that they could just give us a price quote on the
service. For example, the price for any of us to add bX is a
straightforward $1950 per institution per year, regardless of size. If
the translation option is based on size/FTE/bibs, then perhaps there is
more work to be done before we can get a price.

Let's start by just asking the question in an official kind of way.
Paula, I would just email Dan Paskett, but he has gone to work for
JSTOR. Who else were we working with besides Dan? Do you want to email
since the contract still sits with Peninsula instead of SBCTC?

Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question. We are setting up Primo and asked them about
translation for the searches. They said that our consortium did not
purchase that option. Is that something we could talk about as a group
and reconsider? We have a significant Hispanic population as well as
international students and it would be helpful to allow translation. I
don't know what the cost would be so maybe it was prohibitive. Just
wanted to put it out there for discussion.

Thank you!,

Mindy
