Subject: Gathering Ideas for Future Statewide Projects 2014

The Library Council of Washington wants to hear your thoughts and ideas about how 2014 LSTA funding should be used in Washington State. Approximately $300,000 is available to support one or more new ideas for projects/activities.

Ideas for projects that use LSTA funding should be statewide in scope. Ideas may target specific needs, take advantage of emerging technology or other opportunities, or target a specific segment or user group of the Washington library community.

The Library Council has identified these specific priorities as critical to the advancement of library services, or as filling gaps in service which need to be addressed at a statewide level. Priorities are not listed in a particular order.

  * Advance applied literacy in the state of Washington in areas such as legal research, health information, employment/job searching, and developing civic/voter education resources.
  * Enhance libraries' relevancy in a democratic society.
  * Serve underserved, unserved, and culturally diverse communities and populations.

The resulting projects could range from technical assistance and training, to the development of services and collaborative efforts, to competitive grant programs. The strongest ideas will be consistent with both the LCW priorities and guiding principles.

More information is found at http://author.www.sos.wa.gov/library/libraries/dev/council/gathering-ideas.aspx. The form for submission of ideas is linked from this page. The deadline for submitting ideas is March 07, 2014.

If you have questions about the process, please feel free to contact Jeff Martin or Allyson Ruppenthal, the Washington State Library staff contacts for this process, at jeff.martin at sos.wa.gov<mailto:jeff.martin at sos.wa.gov> / 360.704.5248 or allyson.ruppenthal at sos.wa.gov<mailto:allyson.ruppenthal at sos.wa.gov> / 360.704.5246.
