Ok, then I need clarification, Jeff, and I'll change the survey.  Are there different online meetings?  One for coordinator, one for librarians/front-line staff, one for IT folks?  If that's right, did you want all 3 of those in week of Sept 9?  I have different groups on contract during the break, so would need 3 answers for 3 questions.

I also modified roll-out question to include a launch with publics in Nov, which was the original suggestion, right?

Thanks for coordinating Jennifer.

One question rephrased - When can you do an initial online meeting (for the coordinator/director only)?

We will need to re-schedule online meetings for CTC librarians if possible. Our schedule as laid out will not work for this group.

We have resisted the MS ITA staff suggestion of combining trainings with the K-12 community. We see our processes and needs as different. I know they are trying to streamline and maintain cost-effectiveness but are still trying to be flexible. I know that we cannot be totally divergent either. I do believe a January launch is possible if we can maintain the face-to-face training and add online meetings for CTC library staff. Not sure on which side of the fine line I'm operating but we are happy to explore what is possible.

Not sure if that leaves more questions or fewer.

Jeff, a Winter kickoff, but working to get things in place in Fall (and people able to do a soft launch as desired in Fall) sounds like a great option for us.

I agree with Beth and others on this-I'll add that I usually make a brief address to the assembled Faculty during our pre-Fall assembly, so a Sept meeting that will make certain I can describe things based on up-to-date plans will be comforting.  And presenting this project as allowing Fall to prepare, and Winter to begin, will help lower concern amongst the various units assembled there.  And that in turn will improve likelihood of the projects success here.

Public schools are doing their own thing. The current project is public libraries, two-year colleges, and tribal libraries.

It seems logical that a formal roll-out would work best for the two-year colleges at the start of any given quarter.
But, I realize that we're working with all kinds of libraries' and schools' schedules here.
Yes, I believe most of us in the community college system start fall quarter on Sept. 23rd.
Face-to-face trainings in October, and an online meeting the week of Sept. 9th could work, but my calendar is starting to get very full already!
If we're going to be able to participate, and we do want to, we need to know our dates of obligation as soon as possible.

Thanks Stan. I'm glad you wrote. In addition to your comments it seems I also heard that IT staff make mass changes to college computers roughly once per quarter before the quarter starts up. That probably also needs to be addressed.

The central question is whether the IT Academy in two-year college libraries can start up mid-quarter or needs to begin at the start of the next term in January 2014?

Does everyone start classes the week of September 23rd? If face to face training took place the first two weeks of October at locations around the state would that work? If an online meeting took place the week of September 9th, would you as directors be available for a one hour get together using Live meeting?

It is likely that the first celebration of a kick off would not occur before mid-November. Is that out of synch with your thoughts on timing?

Timing is a challenge we will need to continually address as it poses different demands on all groups as we move forward.

I imagine you've heard this before now already, but I'd like to make sure:

I'm glad this project is aware of public school's starting dates and is working within those limitations.  But please remember your college partners.  Most of us begin late September,  and our faculty librarians have already left and will be gone until the week before that starting date in most cases.  At GHC that pre-class week was long-ago spoken for as far as training opportunities go.  So basically, this train left the station months ago as far as getting things in place for a full Fall Quarter roll-out goes.

I'm concerned that there will be a big press announcement/celebration that leaves us looking foolish and behind the curve at best, non-cooperative at worst.  Are there any thoughts being given to the handling of this issue?

The Microsoft IT Academy licenses have been purchased and the program is now ready to move forward again. Today we talked about the day and times for online meetings. IT Academy staff will forward proposed dates and times for consideration. The conversation focused on starting these meetings the week of September 9th running toward the end of the month. At the conclusion of the online meetings, face to face trainings would begin and take place the end of September through mid-October. I will forward specifics when the arrive.

We decided next week (August 26 - 30) and the week after (September 3-6) are not the best weeks to start up as the three-day Labor Day weekend is in the middle. For some it may be that last vacation before kids are back in school.

The IT Academy staff are processing the registrations for library outlets and will prepare they "keys" needed that associate the IT Academy with the library outlet. More on this when information becomes available.

Looks like we are off and running. I am out of the office tomorrow so I will be sending out information on specific days and times for the online meetings sometime next week if all goes as planned.
