Happy Day,
Steve

I'm Steve Bogart, Professor of Mathematics at Shoreline Community College. I currently have some leadership responsibility for our Math Learning Center (MLC), and I'm trying to find the best way to move our MLC forward, both short-term and long-term.

Pre-pandemic, our Math Learning Center was a thriving physical space where students camped (sometimes all day) to study and work on homework, open about fifty hours a week, usually 2-4 tutors plus a front desk assistant on duty.

Here are our current remote options with Shoreline tutors.

(1) Student matched with a tutor, they work together for the entire quarter (usually up to 2 hours a week). Tutoring usually happens on the tutor’s personal Zoom account but the tutor and student can choose a different platform.

(2) Appointment-based tutoring where students select times from a schedule that includes several tutors. Appointments and tutoring are on WCOnline.

I would love your help with the following. WCOnline works much better for writing than for math since the whiteboard feature is really clunky. I would love to find something better for math than WCOnline that combines both logistics (scheduling and/or drop-in availability) and tutoring. What technology are you currently using for remote math tutoring? How is it working for you?

I appreciate any responses, and I'm happy to meet on Zoom if you would rather talk than type. I'm also happy to report my findings back to the group. Take care and stay safe.

Happy Day,
Steve
