Subject: Grant Opportunity: Support for Implementing Math Corequisites

Greetings Math Friends,

Are you seeking guidance on implementing corequisites in your math courses? Or perhaps you’ve already introduced optional corequisites and are looking for support to expand and scale these practices? If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

Background
The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC) is excited to announce a grant opportunity for colleges to deepen their work in implementing math corequisites as part of their Guided Pathways initiatives.

Building on the work colleges started in the Learning Communities facilitated by Almy Education<https://www.almyeducation.com/> in 2023-24, this grant offers selected colleges intensive support to advance equitable student outcomes through effective corequisite implementation strategies.

This support will include:

  * A member of the Almy Education team will work directly with college teams to support change and inform processes.
  * A comprehensive review of existing math curriculum, policies, outcomes, culture, resources, and systems.
  * Guidance for establishing a core team to make decisions. The team will include representatives from administration, faculty, and staff.
  * A series of meetings over the period of 3-4 months that result in:
     * A revised course flowchart for math which includes a choice of courses and approaches that support redesign goals as well as support other disciplines, highest need learners, and any high school agreements.
     * A revised placement chart (if needed) and protocols for use to support multiple measures placement with the new flowchart.
     * A detailed plan for implementing the recommendations at scale in a timely manner addressing scheduling, advising, registration, curriculum adjustments, faculty professional development, evaluation of the implementation, and data analysis.

Criteria for Selection
SBCTC is interested in supporting colleges who are just starting this work as well as those who are looking to expand their practice. The following aspects will be prioritized:

  * Institutional commitment to replacing precollege math pathways with corequisite college-level support at scale in the next 1-2 years.
  * Collaborative and engaged broad cross-campus team.
  * Commitment to share lessons and accomplishments with other system colleges.

Application Due Date: January 6, 2025
