Need Your Help - Survey for Parents of Black Children
A CALL TO PARENTS OF BLACK CHILDREN

Dear Colleague,

We are conducting a study to examine parent's perceptions and interactions with educators in early childhood education settings. We are looking for parents who have Black children enrolled in preschool, kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade.

We have a survey that has been developed to understand three common types of challenges that Black child face in education (e.g., criminalization, treated as lesser than, assumptions of academic inferiority).

To participate in this study, participants must meet the following criteria: 1. Be parents of children who are currently enrolled in preschool through third grade 2. Have children in these grades who are of African American/Black descent 3. Have a willingness to share about their experiences and that of their children with racial issues in these settings; and 4 Be at least 18 years of age.

About Us. Both researchers are on the faculty at San Diego State University. Our research and advocacy focus on supporting Black students in education, from preschool to community college. We have been married for twelve years and have three children of our own, two of whom are currently enrolled in early childhood education.
