All,
As you head into a busy fall (ok, let's be real, you're already busy!), many of you have asked about how to engage in Guided Pathways "on a budget". Here's a resource to support your college in the focus areas of the broader Guided Pathways reform.

Don't miss out on the 2019 Community Grants<http://collegespark.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/2019-CGP-RFP.pdf> opportunity from College Spark WA!

According to their RFP, College Spark is looking for:
Projects Serving Students in High School or College:

* Reduce the percentage of students who are required to enroll in developmental education (precollege credit) courses during college.

* Increase the percentage of students who earn their first college-level credits in English or math - either while in high school, after taking developmental education classes, or directly upon enrolling in college. Applicants may propose any approach they believe is best designed to influence these outcomes. College Spark Washington encourages projects that take an innovative approach to meeting the needs of low-income students. Only proposed projects that have the potential to generate knowledge that is useful to other organizations will be selected for funding. College Spark Washington expects to disburse approximately $1.4 million in new grant funding under the Community Grants Program in 2019. Grants typically range from $20,000-$150,000 total over one to three years. Grant requests outside this range are not encouraged.
Some of the strategies that have been shown promise at improving these outcomes include:
Getting Students On the Path/ Clarifying the Path

* Reform of college placement instruments and practices

* Increased curricular alignment between colleges and their local feeder high schools
Keeping Student On the Path

* Corequisite remediation replacing a prerequisite developmental education sequence

* Alternative methods of delivering remediation, including embedded supports and acceleration
