As we approach summer, we are excited to open the 2nd cohort 2021 Guided Pathways IDEAL Fellowship application<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScz-02tbE6WkxYuVNWyjrpRURz3SHbAn_5o4DsnebStz89wDg/viewform>. Our first cohort of Fellows were amazing, and their engagement in this emerging learning and leading experience, including a core curriculum, professional development opportunities, and structured mentoring support resulted in tangible policy and practice proposals that are now moving forward on campuses across our system and state. Here are some things they had to say about the Fellowship:



“the ability to network with others, including a smaller group of people, access to staff members for coaching, a diverse network of people to lead us in sessions, making this work approachable and interesting, challenging us but giving us autonomy, having it relevant to issues at hand but also letting us dive deep into trying to achieve equity in our institutions and world.”



“A community and space for like-minded students to talk about their struggles, desire to change, and have a platform for change. This may be the biggest strength I encountered during the fellowship. Every student that I chatted with really cared about advancing this work. And since we all had different backgrounds and perspectives, it was very refreshing to hear as well.”



The core curriculum engages students in the examination of policies and practices that the Fellows identify as impacting the community college student experience with an equity-minded, anti-racist framework. In addition to the $1,000 stipend, this is a great opportunity for students to add to their resumé for employment and transfer applications, while continuing to build their racial and social justice theory to practice skills.



Please share this opportunity with students who you see as leaders but who may not have seen themselves as leaders (yet!).



WHAT:                              GUIDED PATHWAYS IDEAL STUDENT FELLOWSHIP – COHORT 2

The GP IDEAL Fellowship is designed to engage student leaders across Washington community colleges in further development of racial and social justice advocacy skills focused on classroom and college policies. The team of facilitators are dedicated to the future where it is not only possible, but consistent for students to effect change in policies and practices that impact their journey. The fellows will work together to build a collective understanding of equity, what it can look like on college campuses, and in society as a whole. Fellows will use that knowledge to identify, reflect on and review policies and practices on their campuses, collect evidence, and share ideas for improving the student experience designed by students to impact currently inequitable outcomes.

WHEN:                              July 9 – August 21, 2021

Interactive Professional Development Seminars occur on Fridays, 1:00-3:00pm

CORE SEMINAR DATES: July 9, 16, 23, 30, Aug 6, 13, 20

*Office hours are hosted intermittently and will be published at the first

Session

NOTE: Fellows indicated the fellowship requires a commitment of approximately 7-10 hours/ week



COMPENSATION:           Students will be compensated $1,000 stipend for their participation
