Thanks Aaron. That's what I'm hearing from others. We thought we'd see if anyone was doing something to stretch the definition of the law.

Hi,
I just double checked with our union president. She said they’re in bargaining over it but they haven't agreed to anything yet. She doesn't think we can use it for additional training.
Thanks,
Aaron

Hi Jim,

Our union negotiated a two-tier stipend for 2020 - 2021. I'm not on the Union leadership team but the way I understand it is that Tier 1 are disciplines that seemed to be designated by the bill; Tier 2 are ones that seemed to fall within the intent of the bill but were not explicitly named in the bill.

The current MOU calls for a stipend (not addition to base pay) for this year. Our contract ends on June 30, 2021 so my understanding is that HB 2158 monies will become part of the longer-term negotiations.

Karen

Hi everyone,

What are your campuses doing with the funds allocated from HB 2158 that was set up for "high-demand" faculty recruiting and retention?

There are several things we're discussing at Whatcom, but the language of the law isn't really that clear regarding how we're supposed to use it. Is anyone exploring using it for additional training rather than one-year salary increases?

Thanks!
Jim
