Friends and Colleagues:

Please see below for a message from our SBCTC Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (DEI), Ha Nguyen.

This is a wonderful low-cost DEI learning opportunity for employees of Washington State, and, as Ha mentions, one of our system colleagues, Parfait Bassale, will be presenting! He is an exemplary presenter and facilitator.

Save the date now! 🙂 Also ... please do consider the invitation below to volunteer at the event.

Pretty epic! I hope to "see" many of you from our Washington State CTC system there.

Peace,

Jen

Please Save<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/washington-state-dei-summit-save-the-date-tickets-53162405185> the Date - January 12-14, 2021!

One of the hardest things in any organization is to institutionalize a culture. That's what we're engaged in here: Embracing a culture of inclusion and diversity and equity that becomes embedded in our organizational DNA." – Governor Jay Inslee

The third annual Washington Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Summit is going virtual in 2021! Instead of being a two-day, in-person Summit, this year’s event will be held over three days in January: Tuesday through Thursday, January 12-14, 2021 from 9am-3pm daily on Zoom. There will be over 40 live Zoom sessions throughout the three days so you’ll be able to customize your learning and attend sessions that fit with your schedule.

What type of content will be available?

The 2021 Washington DEI Summit aims to advance DEI in public service by building community and competency among DEI professionals and leaders.

Highlights will include:

  * Keynotes/speakers: Ijeoma Oluo, Dr. Peggy McIntosh, Manny Santiago, ChrisTiana ObeySumner, Dr. Joy DeGruy, Justice Helen Whitener, Parfait Bassale, Dr. Beverly Tatum, and the list goes on!

There will be something for everyone, sessions offered covering all of the WA State DEI Competencies and at different stages of the DEI journey (emerging, developing, performing, transforming). The purpose of the Summit is embedded in our learning objectives:

· Understanding the value of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

· Understanding your own personal identity and cultural background to better understand the impact of bias and implicit bias to you and others.

· Understanding how “isms” impact cultures and people

· Understanding racism and its impact on workplace cultures

· Understanding your individual responsibility to contribute to a diverse, equitable, inclusive, and respectful workplace

Participants will be inspired, motivated, and will receive support and resources to implement DEI initiatives and practices related to the work they do every day as public servants and global citizens.

Visit our website<https://ofm.wa.gov/state-human-resources/workforce-diversity-equity-and-inclusion/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-council/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-summit> for the event schedule, session descriptions, and links to presentations from previous years.

How do I register?

Admission to all three days of the Summit is $30. Watch for registration information to come out in mid-November. In the meantime, save the dates on your calendar!

Volunteers Needed!

If you are interested in volunteering for the event as a session moderator or Zoom technical support, please contact Rocky Dimico at dima235 at lni.wa.gov<mailto:dima235 at lni.wa.gov>.

We are excited to be able to offer the DEI Summit experience in a virtual environment and look forward to “seeing” you in January 2021!
