Hi all!
I saw this film, Fail State, last year and it really made an impression on me. It is a documentary on some of the more aggressive practices of for-profit colleges, and highlights community colleges as a juxtaposing system serving the same populations. It is worth a watch if you want to feel good about the work you're doing, but also be prepared for a hard truth or two. For example, they interview a former for-profit recruiter who says something like 'most of the time, I didn't even have to use the (typically pretty aggressive) recruitment techniques we're trained in, I just had to commiserate with the student about the difficulty of accessing/navigating the community college system.' Yikes.
Anyway, enjoy! Would love to hear your thoughts if you decide to watch.
