DEOC--

Happy Friday!

Please see the message below from Katie Rose in our communications office at SBCTC.

The first link leads to more info about the House budget, including $12m for DEI efforts (compared to $0 that the Senate included). I believe that the survey I sent out to you all a couple months ago allowed me to paint a realistic picture with your words about the wins and needs and realities about scaling your (our) work.

None of this is final, but it is hopeful. Your presidents all have this information and have more specifics from our finance folks, so please reach out to them and ask how you can support any asks and communication with legislators that needs to be coordinated.

I will continue sending more information out as it becomes available, but in the meantime, if there's any guidance or clarification that I or any of us from the state board can offer, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Sophia

The twelfth edition of Legislative News for the 2023 session is posted: House budget proposals released<https://www.sbctc.edu/blogs/legislative-news/2023/2023-03-31>

House budget writers on Monday released their versions of the operating and capital budgets. The House Appropriations Committee heard testimony on the operating budget proposal on Monday, and the House Capital Budget Committee took up that budget on Tuesday.

While the remaining pieces of legislation that the State Board has been tracking this session make their way through fiscal committees and budgets make their way to the floors of their chambers, the chance to participate in professional development and collaborative work in and outside of the agency has opened a whole new set of learning opportunities and experiences.
