Here's my thoughts on the conferences mentioned (and in general):

  *   No matter which conference you attend, know that not all sessions will be as meaningful as you hope. You will still grow from attendance and as a DEI professional. Choose your sessions wisely AND know what areas of growth you have going in. We are all at different levels.
  *   NADOHE is important because it is specific to the DEO (type) role and the sessions are geared toward that audience. They also have pre-conf sessions that might be helpful. I think NADOHE is good for folks newer to the role, but I will also be attending. We had a great time and made good connections last year.
  *   NCORE is one of the largest for racial equity work. Won't necessarily be as specific to the DEO role but there should be a track for DEOs/CDOs. NCORE felt more novice in terms of content last year, but was excellent for networking and identifying speakers/SMEs. Again, understand where you're at (professionally/developmentally) and plan accordingly. I'll be at NCORE and taking a team.
  *   (Not mentioned) AAC&U Diversity, Equity, & Student Success - used to be GREAT pre-pandemic. Last year, my team felt it was mediocre. I won't attend this and will prioritize NCORE over AAC&U for my team unless the sessions or keynote are absolutely fire.
  *   (Not mentioned) Chair Academy - not worth the price tag unless you're building up your speaking resume. It's super white-centric, and the keynotes were trash. I won't go again, unless I end up speaking for them internationally.
  *   (Not mentioned) Martha's Vineyard Chief Diversity Officer Summit. This just started last year, I'll be attending this year and can report back if no one else goes. This is for more than just higher ed so I'm interested in cross-sector partnerships and learning. This one is expensive, but I think it's important that we're involved in national conversations about this work.
