[ctcLinkfinaidsupport] WSAC and MFI Calculation

Good morning -
We want to bring to your attention a new issue we have been working on with WSAC. When we sent the email about WCG CEMLI updates to the listserv, we received a response from WSAC about the MFI calculation: "The MFI calculation for WCG also has income offsets which are deducted to arrive at the total income."
During our requirements gathering, we made sure to check the WCG Manual which reflects: "The Financial Aid Administrator may (but is not required to) subtract the following allowable exclusions:" and then lists three exclusions. (pg. 33)

We are beholden to what the policy manual reflects and therefore did not include the optional exclusions in our WCG CEMLI update. WSAC has made it clear that they will be calculating their own WCG Income which includes offsets. As a result, this may increase informational edits on the 2024-2025 Interim.

We collectively agreed in FAST that adding the optional exclusions would be an unfair administrative burden for the FA community in ctcLink. At this time, we believe this is the best way forward. Should WSAC update their policy manual, we will update the WCG CEMLI with the required changes.
We of course, will continue to monitor this specific scenario and inform you of any updates or redirection.
