Subject: SBCTC Fin Aid Training and Work Session Update for 2023

Happy New Year FA friends,

I am sending you good New Year tidings as you are getting into the swing of Winter 2023 quarter and moving through 2023-2024 Aid Year Rollover! This email is to notify you that in the coming days, I will be sending out a series of calendar invites with web ex log in info for my 2023 Fin Aid Trainings and for the Fin Aid Support Work Sessions.

Below is the general direction, format, and frequency of the Fin Aid ctcLink Trainings and FA Work Sessions scheduled in 2023:
Training Direction for 2023:

Fin Aid Trainings: In 2023, Financial Aid Trainings will move away from the JIT (Just In Time) format and will just be referred to as Fin Aid Trainings. This year's trainings will be scheduled around the general timing when a process should be run but will not be the same timing as the Just In Time trainings were.

For example, I will not offer quarterly trainings on quarterly processes, or monthly trainings on monthly processes, unless otherwise requested in a training ticket. If a specific training is needed that you do not see in the calendar invites to come, please file a Training Team ticket with me. If I see several training tickets come through for the same general topic, I will find a time to offer it for everyone, or I can train with you on it, one-on-one, depending on availability. I may refer you to prior recordings if they are available in Canvas.

Training and Work Session Format for 2023:

Refreshers and Fundamentals: Refresher and Fundamental trainings are 100-level trainings that review the basic steps and concepts of processes in ctcLink. Most of the refresher content lives in the Fin Aid Canvas Training courses already. I've scheduled some refresher content for the year, but many of the refresher deliverables will be in Canvas.

Intermediate Trainings: Intermediate trainings are 200-level trainings that will dive deeper into a process to include troubleshooting and review of pages used to perform an order of troubleshooting steps, or to review the more common error messages/rejects. Intermediate trainings will have FA Functional analysts supporting the session.

Fin Aid Work Sessions: Fin Aid Work Sessions will be more of a 300-level advanced and timely topic led by our FA Support functional analysts. Sessions may also include a guest speaker from a college to share their local best practices with the FA community at large.

Training and Work Session Frequency:

Fin Aid Trainings: Financial Aid Trainings will follow the same general timing format as last year. They will be held on Tuesday mornings, as they are scheduled, typically from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. There will also be a follow-up Q & A held on the following Thursday after the training, for an hour, typically from the hour of 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM.

Fin Aid Work Sessions: Financial Aid Work Sessions are moving to the 3rd4th Thursday of every month from 1PM - 3PM. We are moving away from the 3rd4th Friday of every month because we have found that Fridays do not work for everyone, especially during summer schedule.

If you have any feedback on things you would like to see in trainings, I am just an email or ticket away. Thank you for all you continue to do for your students and your teams!

Please keep your eye out on the list servs in the coming days, and the SBCTC calendar<https://www.sbctc.edu/calendar> for published trainings and work sessions. Please also feel free to forward this email along to interested parties that may not be subscribed to the list servs.

All my best,
