Every day we make decisions, without giving it much thought, such as deciding whether we're going to have eggs or cereal for breakfast. But the stakes are much higher when it comes to more complex decisions, and we may overlook important considerations and possibilities if we rely solely on intuition or past experiences. As our colleges begin exploring, developing or implementing guided pathways, we must consider how decision-making impacts the success - or failure - of our students. As one example, guided pathways seeks to move us away from the 'cafeteria-style' model, in which students face an almost dizzying array of program choices, to a more manageable set of options to consider - these are meta majors. For practitioners looking to design meta majors that work for students and educators, understanding the art and science of decision making will greatly and positively impact our work and how we serve our students. Registration Fee: $175 for participants from member colleges; $275 for non-members. Conference begins at 8:30; concludes at 3:30. Lunch and all materials are included in registration fee. [cid:image001.png at 01D2402D.8111F770]Do you . . . * possess a keen interest in offering high-quality professional development for educators that impacts student learning? * hold a position on your campus that focuses on improving teaching and learning? * feel alone or isolated when facing significant challenges in your role? * yearn to learn from your peers and avoid re-creating the wheel? Register Now! Winter 2017 ATL Retreat February 23-24, 2017 Rainbow Lodge Why Should I Attend? To paraphrase Peg Balachowski, Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning at EvCC, these retreats offer professional development for professional developers. * Community of Practice Model: Rainbow Lodge provides a warm and hospitable space for us to enjoy the social nature of learning (community) as we support each other in our shared domain (professional development in the context of the system and our colleges) and reflect upon and improve our practices. * Experiential Leadership Training: At the 2016 ATL conference, Bev and Etienne Wenger-Trayner introduced their practice of setting up Leadership Groups in Social Learning Contexts. At the retreats, participants sign up for one of the seven groups - each group is responsible for stewarding one part of the learning process for the group to help the group develop itself as a learning partnership. * Deepen Collective Understanding of the Field: We will continue our group reading of Coming in from the Margins: Faculty Development's Emerging Organizational Development Role in Institutional Change by Connie M. Schroeder. Schroeder conducted a study to address questions regarding the current and future role of professional development within institutions facing significant institutional change agendas; she argues that professional development must shift to collective approaches that impact more than one faculty member at a time and transform the institution. Since the initial integration with PeopleSoft, we have identified some critical issues regarding the definition and criteria of this code. SBCTC eLearning and Open Education would like your feedback, as well as the reasoning that informs it. Please click the link below to participate: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/OERcode Please Note: * This is NOT an anonymous survey. It is a confidential feedback form for your thoughts. Your name and institution are required fields as we may reach out for further discussion. * This is NOT an attempt to reach a statewide agreement on the OER definition and criteria. This effort is simply to increase the clarity and ease-of-use of the OER code in the SBCTC Coding Manual. * This survey is designed for Washington Community and Technical College (WA CTC) System faculty members, staff, and administrators only. Please kindly disregard this message if you are not part of WA CTC system. Thank you for your participation. Please do feel free to contact Boyoung Chae (bchae at sbctc.edu) if you have any questions regarding this survey.
