I'm happy to share that Vera has released its Best Interest Determination (BID) Toolkit<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1VBLu6ncvY0OWyWCyHjxnWQRNZ4z4TP2W/view> for corrections agencies. The Toolkit was a collaborative effort with key stakeholders, including the 2024 Best Interest Determination Council and the Corrections Education Leadership Academy (CELA). The BID Toolkit includes an introduction that describes the PEP regulations and the steps an oversight entity must take to create their BID process in advance of the initial two-year review, as well as subsequent reviews. The Toolkit also provides a detailed appendix that offers templates, tools, and samples from the field, CELA, and Vera. These resources are aimed at assisting oversight entities and other interested parties in developing their BID approval and best interest review processes.
