They mentioned ChatGPT but not sure if that was a specific reference or a general reference to AI tools. I will be circling back with them to find out more and will let you know.

Thanks!

This is helpful information, Amy! Do you know if the faculty are using a specific AI tool for the accessible code?

Hi Kyle,

We did a pilot project with our Physics faculty and MathPix. They said it did a great job converting handwritten problem sets to accessible code for use in Canvas. However, they did mention that it was very time consuming and I haven't had a chance to circle back and find out more from them. They also felt like it needed to be used by someone who understood the Physics content that was being "transcribed" to confirm that no errors were made.

When I checked in with them a few weeks ago and they say they are mostly using AI to convert the equations into accessible code. This works ok for some content but I worry about privacy issues a bit.

We also had a product overview meeting with a MathPix sales person a few weeks ago. It seems pretty great and pretty affordable. I couldn't quite tell if things have improved since last summer or if I simply don't understand why it was taking them so long and why they felt like Physics folks needed to do the work.

I realize this isn't very helpful. LOL I guess there will be more information to come from us. LMK if there are specific questions you have.

Best,

Amy

Hi Y'all,

I am working on getting the STEM faculty some tools that will make it easier for them to create and remediate their content. We have no real eLearning / instructional design support for them. The responsibility has been placed entirely on the faculty to create and acquire the content they use in their courses.

Does anyone recommend anything in particular outside of the Canvas content editor? I am currently looking at MathType and MathPix<https://mathpix.com/>. I want to make it as easy as possible for them and ideally keep their work within the platforms they already use.

Any guidance is greatly appreciated!
