[CATO] Monica's DOJ Ruling Roadshow - Feedback Wanted

Hi Monica,

For me its all about Purchasing since our IT office is where all software/ technology purchases are ordered.

I think the top thing I want our IT folks to know is that we (speaking for eLearning but I guess really for the Accessible IT Coordinators) want to partner with them for purchasing workflows on campus. Ideally we would review the accessibility of software, and they the security, at the same time so that there can be a unified front when considering new items for the college. This includes creating a purchasing flow that includes an accessibility evaluation that cannot be bypassed and requires sign off by someone responsible for accessible IT on your campus. Joint tracking of purchases, VPATs, HECVATs, accessibility review, etc. should be kept in one database for easy retrieval and review.

Thank you for the ongoing roadshow! I LOVE it and I think it's making an impact!

Best,
Amy

Hi CATO!

For those of you that don't know, I have been BUSY presenting to various groups about the DOJ web accessibility ruling. My goal is to help people understand the requirements, what is covered, circle back to Policy 188, and help illustrate the kind of work that needs to get done along with some cost considerations to chew on. So far, this has included STAC, WATC-Tech (Presidents) Disability Support Services Council, eLearning Council, Library Council, and the Public Information Commission and soon the Human Resources Management Commission.

On Friday I am speaking with ITC, the Information Technology Commission.<https://www.sbctc.edu/colleges-staff/commissions-councils/itc/> I plan to ask this group to help me update ensure accuracy of my list of Accessible IT Coordinators. My question to CATO: what would be the top two or three "take home points" or "call to action" items you would like our system's IT directors to hear? I want your feedback.

Tomorrow I am traveling to Grays Harbor to speak at the State Board's Board at their meeting and I suspect that several presidents will also be in attendance. The state's system of 34 community and technical colleges is overseen by a nine-member board appointed by the governor with the consent of the Senate.

Thank you!
Monica
