Subject: Guidance on Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Process

Greetings!

I wanted to provide clarity and additional communication about the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree process during this period of leadership transition at the SBCTC.

For the interim, I will be handling all things related to the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science development process until the degree development reaches the Statement of Need submission stage, then Scott Copeland will be handling the process from that point (along with the BAS degree process in general).

Statements of Need for the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree program cannot be submitted to the SBCTC for review until December 1, 2021 (this is in the legislation/House Bill #5401).

The current bachelor degree development process had November 1, 2021 for a due date for Statements of Need to be considered at the February 2022 Board Meeting. Given the restriction due to the legislation, the SBCTC will accept Statements of Need for the BS in CS programs starting on December 1 (and no later than December 8) for consideration at the February 2022 Board Meeting. SBCTC staff (myself and Scott) will work with each BS in CS application to prepare it for the board meeting by the due date in which materials will have to be submitted to the board (mid-January).

Going forward, all materials (templates, examples, etc) will be inclusive of all bachelor-level degree types our system offers-bachelor of science or bachelor of applied science. So, there will be one application for any bachelor degree a college will pursue, one process, one template, etc.

See attached for the regular cycle of intent, statement of need, and program proposal processes that will continue (and will now include the bachelor of science degree). All future pursuits of a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree will follow the process outlined in this document.

If you have any questions, please reach out to myself or Scott (scopeland at sbctc.edu<mailto:scopeland at sbctc.edu>). Thank you for your patience during this period of transition.

Fondly,
Carli
