This rule change would increase the requirement that SNAP food retailers have more varieties of four staple food categories available on a continuous basis. This would be beneficial to the basic food recipient by ensuring access to more healthy purchase options. However, there is concern that this would limit retailer options because some may not be able to comply, and this may, in turn, limit food options for students. If you are interested in sharing information about the student experience with EBT cards while in higher education, the link to comment and some advice from CLASP is presented below. Messaging from CLASP concerning this issue and advise for public comments: The restrictions are helpful in leveraging access to a wider range of healthy foods in poor neighborhoods. So, we'd recommend you lead any comments with an acknowledgement of their importance, but note that they may have unanticipated negative effects in making it impossible for college based stores to accept EBT. Then I'd have your standard bullets about what you've learned/experienced about the extent of hunger among college students, and suggest that they allow flexibility on things like the distance from where hot food is being sold. Smarter Balanced Summary: an overview of the changes in the high school assessment system and the implications for our Smarter Balanced placement agreement, along with a brief update on the logistics of implementation as more colleges begin seeing students wanting to use that agreement (last year's juniors, the first cohort to take the official assessment, will be entering our colleges this fall) 3. MPC...: aka Math Pathways to Completion, our Dana Center-funded project that will be focusing on defining clear college-level math pathways for students and linking those pathways to precollege preparation 4. BtC: aka Bridge to College project, providing an update on the status of the senior-year transition courses in math and English we are offering across the state in partnership with OSPI. We are moving into our 2nd year of implementation in 2016-17 and will also be piloting adapted versions of the courses with BEdA faculty in our own system. William S.
