Hi Doug, apologizes for not giving enough specifics. The biggest issue I’m running into is performance when running Zoomtext or Fusion which I know has been issue of the magnifier \ for a long time. Otherwise, it works well enough. I’ve also had a lot more luck with the server in the last two years. I no longer get odd server based time outs or issues.

What have you run into with Fusion that wasn’t present with either JAWS or ZoomText?

Asking as we’re wondering about combining our 10 copies of each into Fusion but may be swayed not to if it is buggy.

Sadly, I’ve found that out of the big name screen readers NVDA seems to be the most stable. I spent almost an hour trying to get Voice over to work while sharing my screen using zoom. I kept running into issues with my browser / google docs and the screen reader… Monica can attest to the frustration.

I’ve also found that voice overs key combos are too large and or lengthy and you will likely need sticky keys.

To be clear I’ve also had issues lately with Fusion (Zoomtext and Jaws) as well.

I’m not sure why but screen readers seem to be struggling lately with issues.

You are in my neck of the woods as I live in the Tri-Cities area.  I see you and I work with a lot of the same tools and devices.  I completed CSUN ATCP program in December of 2016.

I chuckle a bit as I read you are starting to familiarize yourself with the macOS. We are a Windows-based OS campus but we do test software on a macOS at times.  I just got three software tests for macOS and spent an entire day trying to familiarize myself with the macOS again after a few years not working on one.  The accessibility features have changed and improved so it is a bit overwhelming. I mainly test with keyboard-only and VoiceOver.  However, VoiceOver is very different on a macOS than it is on an iPad, for sure.  I, for one, would appreciate any help you can give me as you learn about the macOS.

Hello, all thank you so much for having me!

As Monica mentioned my name is Shaun and I’m currently at Spokane Falls Community College.  As mentioned, I completed the ATACP cert last summer. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

In the SFCC DAS office, I undertake student intakes, quarterly meetings, as well as any tech needs the students may have. I specialize in low vision and learning disabilities focoused  technology. I’m also a lifelong user of Zoomtext as I have a visual disability. I also help students with as Natural Reader, Otter AI, Fusion, alt format text, digital recorders, smart pens on other tech. I also use a lots of apple devices (iPhone iPad) and I just added Mac Pro to get used to using macOS.
