<p class="MsoNormal">I am writing to warn you about ramifications of a Federal Government shutdown. While it is possible that such a shutdown might be averted if the House and Senate passes a Continuing Resolution or a series of budget bills prior to the Midnight
Sept. 30 deadline, it would be prudent to think through the actions that your college would take if a shutdown happened.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In all past shutdowns, the federal government did eventually make institutions whole for the federal grants and activities that colleges undertook during the shutdown. However, continuing these activities isn’t without risk in case the
new budget pares down funding for the grant activities, or in the worst-case scenario the passed budget cuts that grant altogether.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Here are some of the things that should be on your radar. In the next few days, we will likely receive more information from OFM related to other pass-through funding that our system receives as “state funding,” so this is not a comprehensive
list, just a starting point for you to start college level planning. As we receive more information from OFM we will send it along to the colleges.<o:p></o:p></p>
