<p class="MsoNormal">We would like to share an update on progress of the <i>Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness Pilot</i> from your bill, 2SSB 5800—see attached.

<p class="MsoNormal">During its first year, this pilot has allowed six colleges and universities to develop critical infrastructure and direct services to students facing homelessness. This pilot has been especially crucial as the pandemic and economic crisis
have unfolded this spring, exacerbating the impacts on students already facing basic needs insecurity, and increasing the number of students who struggle with housing stability and basic needs security. Specifically, 109 students were served in pilot programming
from February through June, and all were able to complete the term and to persist to the following term. <o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">I have been working with our partners at WSAC and our 2SSB 5800 Supporting Students Experiencing Homelessness pilot institutions to prepare a first year progress update. A formal report is not legislatively required until 2023, but we’ve
received a request for information from Senator Randall’s office and wanted to take this opportunity to share what we’ve learned, including the prevalence of unmet basic needs on the pilot campuses, the number and characteristics of students served by the
pilot institutions, and brief descriptions of the services/accommodations provided.
