school seniors in almost 200 high schools in 115 school districts across the state. As part of the system-wide agreement approved initially in 2014 and recently revised and extended through the Class of 2022, students receiving a B or better in a
<i>Bridge to College</i> class automatically qualify for placement into certain college-level classes without taking a placement
</span><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">test. A recent project evaluation report conducted by
</span><a href="http://www.bercgroup.com/"><i><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">The BERC Group</span></i></a><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif"> indicated that a number of
<i>Bridge to College</i> students eligible for automatic placement were unable to use their Bridge course grade but instead were required to take a placement test. There are any number of possible explanations for these results, not all of which are in our
control, but a major concern is the likely inequities involved: students with more educational capital are likely to know how to navigate the process more effectively and advocate for themselves (or have parents who will do it for them). So one idea we’d like
to propose as a way of both understanding the issues better and as needed reducing barriers for students is to have
<b>each college identify a <i>Bridge to College</i> </b></span><b><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif;color:windowtext">contact person
</span></b><b><span style="font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">who would be knowledgeable about the agreement and be designated as the contact person for questions about it.
