<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:105%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:"Georgia",serif">Today the Supreme Court denied an expedited review of a decision by the Federal District Court in San Francisco that blocked the termination
of the DACA program on March 5 as the Administration planned. The Supreme Court’s decision is not surprising – it has been nearly 30 years since the Court granted such an expedited review. The case will now proceed through the appellate process at the Ninth
Circuit and then (potentially) to the Supreme Court. This process could easily take a year or longer. Until a final decision on the case,
<u>current</u> DACA recipients will be able to continue to renew their DACA protections. However, the government is not required to allow new DACA registrations.
</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:105%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:"Georgia",serif"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:105%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:"Georgia",serif">In addition to this case, on Feb. 13, a second federal judge in New York issued a decision that imposed a nationwide injunction against
ending DACA program. That case will also proceed through the normal appellate process – this time in the Second Circuit.
</span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:105%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:"Georgia",serif"> </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:105%"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:105%;font-family:"Georgia",serif">The Supreme Court’s decision effectively puts the March 5 deadline imposed under the administration’s rescission of DACA on hold. Good
news: those who are in DACA are protected for the time being. Bad news: no new registrations and probably less incentive for
<span style="color:#1F497D">C</span>ongress and the president to reach an agreement soon.
