[Wsssc] COVID mandate "blanket" policies/procedures

We are not currently taking this approach, though have considered it. We have plans to ramp up promotion to get folks to do this, though we currently only have a “consequence” for those who have an in-person/hybrid course and have not (we have dropped students). We are also requiring verification (so students attest, then have to validate with documentation, whether vaccine or medical/religious exemption). We actually thought the governor might move in this direction, though hasn’t …yet.

I’m not sure we could handle an enrollment hit if we were to, say, drop online students who don’t complete the process. It’s been a major resource impact to do the outreach to get students to complete the process (whether attesting, verifying, or both). It’s currently hard to imagine the capacity to do so if it were applied to all students, though we certainly will be messaging to students to do so (indeed, it is required to come to campus for any reason, not just to attend a class).

Ideal? Absolutely. But if we’ve got 600 students who don’t complete the process, are we going to drop them from courses that have no grounded component? I guess it hinges on what is meant by “required.” ☺ I’d also guess that this will have different impact regionally.

Best,
Matt

Hi All,

At Bellevue College we have adopted an "all" or aka "blanket" approach to the COVID mandate regarding having all students complete the attestation form regardless of course modalities. Long story short, if a student is fully online we are still requiring them to submit the attestation form and select from either COVID vaccination confirmation, medical or religious exemptions. We considered this at length on our executive team for the College. Due to our new reality that we are moving into an education era where on ground, hybrid and online that are very fluid. Students rarely just select one of these anymore.

So question, are any of the CTC's using the same approach? Input?

Saludos and happy Monday!

Dr. B
