Subject: Seeking volunteers for safety task force

Hello Joe,

I've been asked to put together a system-wide task force to make a recommendation to WACTC on whether our system would want the authority to have fully commissioned police forces on campus, like the four-year universities have.

So why is this conversation so important? Because legislators drop bills every year to give us this authority, and our system lacks a response. Moreover, we have been asked this question by the Governor-appointed Mass Shooting Workgroup, whose report is due in December. School and college shootings add fuel to the fire.

I anticipate starting with a couple of in-person meetings in September, followed by WebEx meetings in October. The goal would be to have a recommendation for WACTC to consider by November.

I hope to have four representatives from:


*       Presidents

*       Business Affairs Commission

*       Student Services Commission

*       Safety and Security Emergency Management Council

Would you be willing to reach out to the Student Services Commission to seek volunteers? We are hoping for a good mix of urban and rural schools.
