Hello,
Please forward this opportunity onto your faculty in Biology and Math. It is a great way to get them experience with contemporary research and interacting with researchers, plus they get custom datasets to use in the classroom to help build quantitative skills and make STEM more authentic and relevant for students. Why not have your math students doing analysis on real microbiome data? Why not have biology students learning in demand quantitative biology skills on cutting edge research databases? This program has a big equity focus as well and helps STEM fauclty build competence in understanding equity issues in relationship to biological research, data, and quantitative skill devleopment and supports them in making their classrooms more inclusive.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Irene

Hello Faculty,
Don’t miss out on this great opportunity! Submit your letter of interest by August 31, 2023! Most sessions are on zoom, except there are annual paid convenings in Seattle.

The Next-Gen Bio Learning Network is a group of community college faculty and next-gen biologists with a goal to support innovation in biology education and data science skills at Washington State Community and Technical Colleges. As part of the program participants:
● Immerse in cutting edge next-gen biology presented by the biologists doing the work;
● Explore diversity, equity, and inclusion issues related to next-gen biology
● Develop curriculum adaptations to engage and inspire students in remote/hybrid/in-person settings; and
● Create relationships with research and education colleagues across the region.

Participants receive:
* A $400 school-year stipend, plus travel expenses to Seattle for those living more than 50 miles away - and - an opportunity for a $1200 stipend for Summer 2024 participation
* Support to develop curriculum enhancements for remote/hybrid/in-person classroom next year
* A collaborative network of colleagues who support each other’s professional growth
