<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Actually, here’s a fix for the direct linking for the Gale College in Context collection that could be implemented immediately.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Hannah and Kirsti, since you both have a good understanding of what’s going on, it might be something for you guys to try first.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>In:      Alma Admin / Discovery / Custom Linking for Central Index databases</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Update “gale_linking” as follows:</div>
<div> </div>
<div style="text-indent:36pt;"><a href="http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/{{control/sourcerecordid}}/GPS?sid=primo&u=your_loc_id_here"><font face="Courier New" color="blue"><u>http://link.galegroup.com/apps/doc/{{control/sourcerecordid}}</u></font><font face="Courier New" color="blue"><b><u>/GPS</u></b></font><font face="Courier New" color="blue"><u>?sid=primo&u=your_loc_id_here</u></font></a></div>
<div> </div>
<div>What this will do is replace the “CIC” code for College in Context with the newer “GPS” code.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I know this will work for the College in Context collection.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>What I’m not 100% sure about is whether the GPS code, which would now be applied to any direct link for Gale in the CDI, would work for all links. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>My educated guess is that it will, as the newer “GPS” appears to be a superset of everything you have access to in Gale. And, if you generate a permalink in the Gale interface these days, the database code included in the link seems always to be “GPS”,
regardless of the collection.</div>

<div> </div>
<div>Heather and Kirsti, </div>
<div> </div>
<div>This is a problem specifically with the links in the CDI records for articles available in Gale in Context: College; a large number of them (all of them?) don't link correctly. You'll notice that you only have the one link to the article ("View record
in Gale"), that's because Gale in Context: College is a link in record collection (as far as I know the only Gale collection that is link in record; at least, all the rest of ours are linkresolver collections), and that means it hides all of the linkresolver
links that DO work and only allows you to see the (broken) link that's in the GIC:C record. We "solved" this by checking Yes for the "Do not show as Full Text available in CDI even if active in Alma" option for the collection; this hides the CDI records that
come from GIC:C and allows records from linkresolver collections - and the linkresolver links - to be presented. You'll still get a link for GIC:C that should work, as well as all the other ones you're paying for; it will just be a linkresolver link rather
than the link from the record. The downside to this is that you won't have citations to articles that are ONLY available in GIC:C, but we figured that was better than having citations with no access to any of them.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Our record for this citation looks like this: <a href="https://sbctc-greenriver.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01STATEWA_GREENRIV/bh3g5a/cdi_gale_infotracacademiconefile_A19732214"><font color="blue"><u>https://sbctc-greenriver.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01STATEWA_GREENRIV/bh3g5a/cdi_gale_infotracacademiconefile_A19732214</u></font></a></div>
<div> </div>
<div>ExLibris is perfectly aware of this; I submitted a case about it back in April. Maybe if more libraries open cases they'll bother to fix it?</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Anyway, if you deactivate the CDI records for GIC:C it should solve the problem - and allow you to access the rest of your databases that have that article, as well.</div>

<div>CAUTION: Originated outside our network. Do not click links or open attachments unless you validate the sender.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Wade-- We’ve got the exact same problem with this exact same citation in Seattle Central’s Primo. When I try to connect to the citation from North Seattle’s or South Seattle’s Primo, the link gets redirected through the proxy servers, as expected.  As
soon as I authenticate, I get the message: </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Technical Difficulties</div>
<div>We encountered a problem in processing your request. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please try again in a few seconds.</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>When I try to connect to the citation from Seattle Central’s Primo, I get taken to the Gale Power Search page which asks me to log in (which, of course, I can’t).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I assume I need to file a case with both Gale and Ex Libris, yes?</div>
<div> </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Heather-- I’ve seen some discussion on the Alma-L list in the past month and in a recent ELUNA Learns webinar saying that the citation metadata that Gale sends to Ex Libris for inclusion in the Central Data Index is extremely messed up and causing all
kinds of problems with article linking.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>To the best of my knowledge, the only thing libraries can do with CDI citations is to either turn them on for specific electronic collections, or turn them off for specific electronic collections.  Fixing bad citation records requires filing a case with
Ex Libris (which we should do because if the citation is bad for us, it’s bad for the other 2000 libraries that use Alma/Primo). </div>
<div> </div>
<div>When we went live on Alma/Primo back in 2017, I remember that the Primo Central Index citations for the Gale products were so consistently giving us bad links that we ended up deactivating all the Gale products in PCI.  I’m about ready to suggest to my
colleagues here that we deactivate the CDI settings for our Gale electronic collections.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Also, when we had this exact problem with a Gale CDI citation a few weeks ago, Wade was really helpful with troubleshooting. What I learned at the time was:</div>
<div> </div>
<div>1. CDI citations have 2 types of URLs: </div>
<div>a. Direct link</div>

<div>Hello, dear colleagues.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I had a student share a link to a Primo citation that isn't correctly connecting to our Gale subscriptions.  Here's the <a href="https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flinkprotect.cudasvc.com%2Furl%3Fa%3Dhttps%253a%252f%252fsbctc-everettcc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com%252fpermalink%252f01STATEWA_EVERETT%252f1qv5jiv%252fcdi_proquest_journals_215686785%26c%3DE%2C1%2Cb02ESimOm3767MEXstmCP-vTIXEWNE9PzQ5EziGPq5yQGxlIG2xdCHzslH38D_FajHsiKSQRgh5NDOLKWAoLpmb2zJar61m9_Wb6wWgb_w%2C%2C%26typo%3D1&data=04%7C01%7Chmicona%40greenriver.edu%7C9ad1e24ac7fe47294bf908d9a873d567%7Cfa40663e972749789bce776cf824bca5%7C0%7C0%7C637726037736217479%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=u7lPT3Gt0Cg%2BQrgKMzSODbusfRteppo59pJi7XGFXJs%3D&reserved=0"><font color="blue"><u>https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flinkprotect.cudasvc.com%2Furl%3Fa%3Dhttps%253a%252f%252fsbctc-everettcc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com%252fpermalink%252f01STATEWA_EVERETT%252f1qv5jiv%252fcdi_proquest_journals_215686785%26c%3DE%2C1%2Cb02ESimOm3767MEXstmCP-vTIXEWNE9PzQ5EziGPq5yQGxlIG2xdCHzslH38D_FajHsiKSQRgh5NDOLKWAoLpmb2zJar61m9_Wb6wWgb_w%2C%2C%26typo%3D1&data=04%7C01%7Chmicona%40greenriver.edu%7C9ad1e24ac7fe47294bf908d9a873d567%7Cfa40663e972749789bce776cf824bca5%7C0%7C0%7C637726037736217479%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=u7lPT3Gt0Cg%2BQrgKMzSODbusfRteppo59pJi7XGFXJs%3D&reserved=0</u></font></a>.
I was able to direct-search Gale Powersearch and get the article.  Unfortunately, the access link in the Primo record appears to derive from CDI, not from our Alma activations.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Do we have the ability to configure CDI activations?  Perhaps in the Primo VE interface?  If not there, then perhaps in Alma in another way than what I'm currently doing?  I've searched our Alma activations and I can't find the specific collection listed
in the example record.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Thanks very much for your consideration and advice!</div>
