<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">Other options already exist for metadata and ILL. Though, for “closed source” metadata records, I don’t think anyone matches OCLC yet. (By ‘closed source’, I mean that OCLC places limits on what you can do with
records you obtain from them. I would think of LC as ‘open source’ records.)<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">Going forward, seems like libraries, academics anyway, are going to be built more around electronic content, both licensed and open access, than print. Just judging by the direction of budgets.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">My own impression is that OCLC is not keeping up with the EBSCOs and ProQuests in building out large metadata repositories for electronic content. (Full disclosure, it’s been a few years since I worked with any
of OCLC’s electronic resource metadata, but at the time it didn’t feel very accurate.)<o:p></o:p></span></p>
