<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">We have some expensive equipment that checks out to both employees and students, and we sometimes don’t discover the equipment has been damaged until several days or weeks after the item has been returned.
With faculty/staff equipment especially, we sometimes only find out the equipment is damaged when the next employee checks it out months later.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Given the expense to replace some of this equipment, we wanted to hold onto the info about who used it last in case we need to bill them.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">At least, this was our approach pre-pandemic.

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">We may be rethinking this approach for certain types of equipment that have a relatively short lifespan or where the outside department that's buying the equipment decides to just factor in replacing damaged

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">It's possible to configure different anonymization schedules for different types of materials. For example, we anonymize "regular" circulating materials after 2 days (I think), but we keep circ history for
circulating equipment for 6 months.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
