Thanks Shalon!

In our situation, a high school is co-located on our branch campus and we've recently been asked to allow students to check out our materials.  So the patrons might be as young as 14, I believe.

We also have an established community borrower program similar to yours but are thinking through various scenarios in which materials don't come back.. what we can/can't do in this situation (with a legal minor)  if materials aren't returned..

Here at Skagit Valley College we allow non-students to create Community Borrower accounts. The policy on the CB application is as follows: "Residents of Skagit, Island, and San Juan counties who are 16 and older are eligible to receive limited library borrower privileges. Proof of residency must be shown in the form of driver's license or other government issued ID card before a library card will be issued. Cards are available for $20 per year."

We don't ask for parental permission, but then again we limit age to 16 and up. The only thing that our records indicate differently from a student account is the Community Borrower status.

Do any of your libraries create patron accounts for minors who are not enrolled as students at the college?

If so, do you get parental permission? How/do you indicate that in the patron record?  I know that we could set up a proxy (minor)/sponsor (parent) scenario in Alma user management, but wondering if it's worth the trouble...
