[Wactclc-alma] WorldCat Question

Alma does not publish to or sync with OCLC WorldCat by default.

You can do so through the publishing process:

Publishing to OCLC - Ex Libris Knowledge Center (exlibrisgroup.com)<https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/090Integrations_with_External_Systems/030Resource_Management/110Publishing_to_OCLC>

Which requires setup on both the OCLC and Alma side, as described in the linked document.

Wow, interesting ...

I am currently working on a project to update all of our old WLN bib records to the corresponding OCLC records. I have about 15,500 records remaining.

I am surprised at the number of bib records that are not tagged for us in OCLC, which I'd give a rough estimate of 15%!

Melinda, I vaguely recall hearing (maybe in one of our weekly Zoom calls?) that we could link an OCLC account with Alma.

At Grays Harbor, we use OCLC for ILL.

This email originated from outside Grays Harbor College. If this email seems unusual - DO NOT click links or open attachments unless you know for certain the content is safe and you know the sender. You can always contact the Help Desk at x4064 or email helpdesk at ghc.edu<mailto:helpdesk at ghc.edu>.

WARNING: Links may ask for your email, network logon, or password - do not enter these into non-GHC websites.

Curious question - it was my understanding that Alma did this process for us. Is that incorrect? Is the offering below something to be interested in?

Additionally, are there options for ILL, record sharing, etc. than OCLC? I was under the impression that was the go-to. Are any of you using a different vendor?

FYI

Your library's holdings in WorldCat enable people to find items in your collections through WorldCat.org-connecting from popular websites like Google Books, Wikipedia, and Goodreads-and other OCLC services like WorldCat Discovery, FirstSearch, WorldShare Interlibrary Loan, and Connexion.

Does WorldCat present the best view of your library?
Accurate holdings in WorldCat are vital to ensure people can find and access all resources currently available in your collections. Up-to-date holdings also ensure they see your latest acquisitions, without viewing items you no longer own.

Update holdings for free through June 2022.
You can now use a new, streamlined process to update WorldCat holdings at no additional charge with your current OCLC subscriptions. When you send your library's complete MARC 21 catalog data, the process matches your records with WorldCat and:

* Adds holdings to matching WorldCat records

*        Removes inaccurate WorldCat holdings

* Adds new records when a matching record is not available

Secure your project now

This free option is only available for a limited time, so submit your request soon. Project requests will be accepted through 31 May 2022 and all catalog data must be submitted by 15 June 2022.

Just submit a request at oc.lc/holdings-request<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fprotect2.fireeye.com%2Fv1%2Furl%3Fk%3D31323334-501d2dca-313553c2-454455534531-908075480209a389%26q%3D1%26e%3D364ca654-f9bf-471d-8df9-85cd5a36e4ff%26u%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Foc.lc%252Fholdings-request&data=04%7C01%7CMelinda.Martin%40scc.spokane.edu%7Cba1f720c2acb4e674f8308d9d5f1f661%7C4dedfefa6bd04442a06c98aed0b4b8da%7C1%7C0%7C637776057472454066%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=gnVkTDtdSxv6cN3amq4AS0pXcoVlIf6YMTp3eWxX9Qs%3D&reserved=0> and an OCLC holdings update expert will contact you with details.
