[Wactclc-alma] Alma and Printing

Thanks Wade, it looks like the printers have the printout queue selected, and I did add the appropriate role. I really wish there was a “select all roles” role. 😊

Good to know about the specific letters. We were looking at the PPT, but I missed that and my husband/IT is not as familiar with Alma.

I just placed a hold on a book and went to see if anything would show up in the printing queue, but it didn’t. I had to delete the hold so I don’t mess up our curbside pickup.

According to the logs, the prints are not using the “D126Circ” printer that is specified in Alma. It’s still going to the old address that was there (LMCprinter1), even though the setting was changed over a week ago. Is there another place to specify the printer?
The second printer was added to see if it asks which to default to. It didn’t.

The printing does still work, so it isn’t critical.

Sally: The print via email feature just stops working from time to time, and the service gets restarted and then it’s ok. We never know when it is going to stop working, and we were trying to move away from that.

Nicole

Nicole,

In Configuration / Fulfillment / Printers, did you check the ‘printout queue’ box for testing, and then uncheck? It’s currently not checked (I’m looking at the LMC CIRC printer).

Also, just FYI for everyone, the letters this printout queue applies to are those the kinds you would print at the circ desk, like loan receipts, return receipts, hold shelf slips, etc.

Rather than the batched letters, like overdue notices. Basically, these letters are supported and can be redirected to the print queue:

  *   Loan Receipt letter
  *   Return Receipt Letter
  * Hold Shelf Request Slip Letter
  *   Resource Request Slip Letter
  * Fine Fee Payment Receipt Letter
  *   Ful Transit Slip Letter

A good slide deck on this topic can be found at:

Letters - The Printout Queue and Quick Printing in Alma.pptx<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fknowledge.exlibrisgroup.com%2F%40api%2Fdeki%2Ffiles%2F73678%2FLetters_-_The_Printout_Queue_and_Quick_Printing_in_Alma.pptx%3Frevision%3D6&data=04%7C01%7Cnlongpre%40bellevuecollege.edu%7Ce75bf23806c14935347408d909d63832%7Cf94c251c1347422eb3ea8ac56befd6cb%7C0%7C1%7C637551637954376386%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=GfQOZxD%2FuOFzItfWU82a4pzCVvf%2Fpif7ZknWHGUm%2FpE%3D&reserved=0>

Another aspect of this workflow is that it has associated roles for the printing part. You need ‘print queue manager’ or ‘print queue operator’ to be able to print from the queue.

Sally,

In your case, are you talking about circ desk letters, or notification letters?

If you’re talking about circ desk letters / receipts, I’d suggest taking a look at the presentation linked above. And maybe switching from Namtuk to printout queue.

Hi Nicole,

We use the print via email (Namtuk software). What happens when the service stops working? Is no job created? I’d be interested to hear about whatever solutions you come up with. Sorry that I don’t have advice for your issue; in fact I have a couple of issues myself.

I apparently can’t prevent the Caution: message from being included in email sent to the printer, at least not on the IT side, because I’ve asked them. (You’ll see it below.)

Also, we moved and have a new set up – new printer, new computers. These Alma letters now are directed to the correct printer but they don’t print two-sided, and the printer seems to require human intervention to let the print of each Alma job proceed (such as would be required if it were printing on letterhead). I haven’t looked at this yet, and it sounds like something for our IT folks. But if any of this has been true of your experience, I’d appreciate any tips you could share.

Thanks.

Hi there,
We currently use Alma’s print via email feature, and occasionally this service decides to stop working. Alma also offers the option to have print jobs go to the browser, and then print from there, but it is not acting as expected (i.e. there are no jobs in the printouts queue).

I have gone into Configuration/Fulfillment/Printers and changed the email address, but this doesn’t seem to change anything. The logs show that while documents do print, they are not using the new email address.

Have any of you used the printout queues, and is that a better way to print?

I’m working through this with my husband, who is a network admin at Bellevue. We are complicated by the fact that the printer is physically in the circ office on campus and we are not there.

I’d appreciate any advice.
