[Wactclc-alma] copyright symbol?

P.S. Also check the settings on the Import profile you’re using. Make sure the encoding format is set as “UTF-8” and the source format is “MARC21 Bibliographic.”

The MARC encoding would be the first thing I would check.

Make sure you’re exporting as “UTF-8 Unicode” instead of “MARC 8”

If you’re getting record sets via WorldCat Collection Manager, I have a vague memory that OCLC may only make those available as MARC 8 files. You have to either open those files in MARCEdit to convert them to UTF-8 Unicode, or you have to import the records into Connexion Client (File >> Import Records – make sure in the Record Characteristics option, the Character Set is “UTF-8 Unicode”) and then export them back out of Connexion Client.

The issue is likely that you’re exporting records out of WorldCat in Marc 8 encoding, rather than Marc 21 or Unicode.

If you’re using the Connexion client, edit your export profile and set the character set to UTF 8.

Subject: [External] [Wactclc-alma] copyright symbol?

Hi everyone:

We’re noticing that the copyright symbols when we import records from OCLC, are showing up in both Alma and Primo as a question mark in a triangle, like this: 2007

It doesn’t seem to matter which browser we use. Is there something that we can do (maybe in our import profile or normalization rules) to fix this? Our records didn’t look like that when we migrated them over from Millennium, but our staff have been cleaning up the symbol since we started importing into Alma from OCLC. Has this happened to anyone else? So far, it only seems to be the copyright symbol that is affected. Haven’t noticed a problem with diacritics in foreign language materials.

Thanks,

Elena
