You enabled 'Direct Linking', because it wasn't enabled earlier.

That setting cause a search result to redirect to the first electronic service available when you click the title. Doing so prevents you from being able to see what services are available for the title first, before clicking.

People generally prefer *not* to enable direct linking, because it's often useful to pick the source (ebsco, proquest,etc) that you prefer.

I don't think the online service ordering stuff would have an impact either.

What may have caused the links to start appearing is that I updated the 'primo_service_page_url' setting under admin / general / other settings.

That setting was still set to the older Primo service page. Not usually a problem, and Primo VE handles the redirects appropriately.

But for the DOAJ collection, that may not have been happening.

Also, I think that example we're using is a bit tricky, because you have both an open access version (DOAJ) and a closed access version (ERIC) activated.

And, you have FRBR and dedup on, so when those titles get FRBRized or dedupped, the citation may end up being considered by Primo as closed access.

That's why, to get the appropriate DOAJ link, you have to click on 'all versions' in the initial search result, and then select the open access citation.

Is that where you are seeing the duplicate search results? If so, then that is expected. If not, which scope are you searching when you get the duplicate results?

That's really funny. I did a couple of things:  I went to the Configuration - Fulfillment - Discovery Interface Logic - Online Services Order to make sure that we had Ebscohost and ProQuest ranked first, and they were. There was one additional preference which I changed, Display CZ Collections First, I changed from Yes to No. I have Preference Source Service Yes and Prefer ID based Linking services Yes. I looked at Direct Linking Configuration, but I can't remember if I changed anything there.  Here are those settings:

So, I have no idea. I was looking at the help pages, and trying to decipher them as best I could and then clicking the options I thought made the most sense, so it must be sheer dumb luck.

I noticed that there are duplicate articles listed in Primo when I search for this article, though:

The first one links to the actual full text. The second one doesn't. I have no idea how or why there are now two of them showing up and what I did to make that occur.

To make this even more interesting and weird, I also followed your advice to deactivate and then delete the DOAJ collection,  so who knows what we'll get tomorrow morning!  I have told the group lately how much Alma/Primo drive me nuts?

The DOAJ links appear to be behaving better in your Primo instance now.

The Centralia instance does provide a direct to the article (https://wactc-centralia-primo.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/primo-explore/fulldisplay?docid=TN_doaj_soai_doaj_org_article_68aa1c6a2254455180b55e067c45ad02&context=PC&vid=CENTRALIA_V1&search_scope=EVERYTHING&tab=default_tab&lang=en_US ), while Skagit does not.

I do not see any configuration differences between the two, so I believe the issue must be related to metadata.

I think the issue in the Skagit Primo might just be stale metadata somewhere.

Elena (and probably Lily at SPSCC as well), the easiest thing to do is to deactivate and then delete the DOAJ collection in your institution zone. Then wait overnight, and reactivate it fresh from the community zone.

That may resolve the issues you are both seeing with not being linked directly to the article from the DOAJ collection.

Our DOAJ links only go to the title level as well.  In fact I renamed the collection to include a short note to warn that it does so!  I am also planning to demote DOAJ to the bottom of the collection order, if more than one collection of ours has the article.  The default order is alphabetical so it currently appears at the top.

Lily, our link to DOAJ works, however, I'm only linking to the journal title, not the specific article.

Ryer, when you click on the full-text link, does it go to the article itself?  If so, how did you set that up? This is an increasing frustration for us with many of the open access titles. Students end up having to do their search twice, or more frequently, just giving up and leaving the site altogether...

Hi Lily,

My set up looks exactly the same as yours and we're not having issues. I checked with this same title.

Looking at the linking tab, it looks like the parser parameters are using http. DOAJ is now secure https. But again, mine is working with the http setting... There may be something more too. Does access fail when looking at the portfolios in the service editor?

That's cool how you have the online access as embedded. Does that scale ok across various devices? Perhaps this embedding is causing issues?

Help! I'm having trouble with my DOAJ links. I'm getting an error page in my Online Access section, but when I scroll down to the Links section, the View full text in DOAJ link works and takes me to the article. I've looked at my activation for DOAJ and they seem fine to me (BTW, I've suppressed the bib record for the collection itself, but not the portfolios).

Am I missing another step?
