[Wactclc-alma] Checking out items over breakHirning, Maryanne <mhirning at lcc.ctc.edu>

I’m happy to share what we’ve done with anyone that wants to chat off this list. Since circulation of books is wayyyy down compared to 10-20 years ago, we’re happy to do anything to encourage more checkout and more leisure reading…

The CLAMS listserv might be a better place for this. I am only aware of facebook library groups.

Thanks,

I’m so glad that this thread was started! At the end of my first quarter, just this Fall, I had many students inquiring about circ over break. I’m so excited to see how this is handled everywhere else.
Gerie, this is something I completely want to replicate here at LCC! Thank you all for such a lively discussion!

Are there any WACTCLC listservs that just talk about programs and library ideas in general- especially circ related? I follow CLAMS and ACRL…

Thanks in advance and I hope everyone has a great weekend ☺

We did a pop-up library in the student union building and brought dozens of our newest fiction books to entice students to read over the winter break. We extended the due date to the first day of Winter Quarter. It was such a hit, they had to go back to the library to get more books. Students were checking out multiple books at a time. We plan to do this each quarter. We did it manually in Alma.

Hi everyone,

We are thinking about allowing students enrolled in the upcoming quarter to keep items over break which we currently do not allow. It's very rare that we get this request so I think the best way to handle it would be on an individual basis whereby we extend the patron's expiration date and manually set the item due date. Does anyone else allow checkouts over the break? How have you handled it?

Thanks,
Charly
