[Wactclc-alma] Alma/Primo Short URLs

Many libraries are able to use libguides AND maintain the branding of their college, simultaneously.  You just need to import the logo, etc and do some customizing.  See North library’s link below for one example.

The main pushback a library might get from their institution for doing this is if the campus maintains and enforces a style guide of some type (fonts, colors, logos, maybe even content). In that case, doing a libguides based primary site for the library might be a harder sell. But otherwise, lots of advantages for both sides, as Kirsti points out.

The Seattle College Libraries use LibGuides for our home pages.  As far as I know, everyone is happy with this-- the librarians are happy because this gives us more flexibility and control over the content, and IT is happy because they don't have to manage updates and changes for us.

I agree with Lesley about Drupal. If that’s the new platform at BTC, I don’t think existing Primo links will be a problem.

Also, since a switch is being made anyway, you could also make a proposal to simply use libguides as the BTC library home page, and the campus web site could just link library menu options to your libguides site.

I know that some other libraries are doing this successfully (maybe a couple of the CTCs, I can’t remember for certain).

It certainly gives a library more control over their home page, anyway.

Pierce College moved to a Drupal website a couple of years ago. We ended up losing editing privileges which was a bit of an adjustment, but now seems to work fine. Traci, I’m happy to talk with you about any questions you may have about moving to a new website – Primo and Alma were not affected.

The BTC website will be switching over to a new website soon. Our library website will need to have shortened URLs. I was wondering if any college’s have switched to a new website recently; if so, what has your library done?
