[Wactclc-alma] Remove "Lost and Paid" status

I think the error message we're seeing is based on a timeline of when the item went lost, when the lost and paid status/config was activated, and when the item was returned.  Based on the initial tests I've run if an item has gone lost, and I've "paid" it to get the status "lost and paid" and then "found" the item and returned it, all when the lost and paid option has been is activated, it works no problem.  It's all happening while that lost and paid configuration is in place, so it'll work, there's no system disconnect.


The issues arise when an item that was checked out and lost when the lost and paid option WAS NOT activated/configured yet, and then paid for and marked "lost and paid" when it WAS activated/configured, and then found and returned, gives me the error.


I think it's a miscommunication in Alma between the timeline of when something goes lost, when it's paid, and when the configuration for this option is set.  Hence why this option is not necessarily working retroactively.


I've yet to fully test this theory in more detail, but when I tested it  when we first set up the configuration Wade's suggestion of just using the return to set it back to a normal status worked.  It was when books that were checked out and lost BEFORE the config was set, then the config was set, and the same books were paid for and received the status lost and paid - and then found and returned, when the errors showed up.


The only way I was able to fix the issue with these books I was getting errors with was to TURN OFF the config for lost and paid and process the once paid for but now found book through returns to get it to a normal "on shelf" status.

I think Naoko and Tammy both reported seeing something like this during one of the weekly calls last month when they were talking about the problems they’ve had with marking things Lost & Paid. I think it’s part of the whole—Alma doesn’t think anything marked Lost & Paid should ever come back.

I’d recommend opening an SF ticket with the item barcode #, and having ExLibris look at that example.



Or, if you’ve already done something else with the item, then open a case on the next example.



I’m guessing the issue could be something specific about the item, rather than the workflow itself.

I believe I tested this in one of the sandboxes, and running the item through the ‘return items’ workflow puts the item back in place.



However, any refund to the patron has to be done manually.

and set the close_paid_lost_loan setting to true.

I don’t think there is a way to run a job and flip items to ‘lost and paid’.



To close those loans, I beleive you could use analytics to identify lost loans that have been paid, and then run that set through the ‘close lost loans’ job.

I’d be interested in learning what needs to be done to set up the lost and paid status too.  So far I haven’t been able to see it come up on our Alma either.  I’m going to assume there’s a setting somewhere in config that allows for this to show up, where I haven’t had a chance to discover yet.

Hi, all,



Now that Alma has a way to indicate an item is lost and paid for, instead of missing, I want to change an item from missing to lost and paid.  It’s a laptop that was stolen when a student’s car was stolen.  I’ve tried running the Information Update job which allows you to change status from Item in Place to Missing and vice versa but Lost and Paid is not an option.  Do any of you have any other ideas on how to change the status on this item?
