You’d need to open an SF ticket to have local authorities enabled in your Alma.

Then you create the local authority “vocabulary” (like for Subject)

Then, you just create / edit your local authories with mdeditor.

I’d first consider how important the local subjects actually area. And whether they really get used.

On a related subject, has anyone started doing local authorities work? We have local subject headings, and I’ve been meaning to look into what it would take to keep those in order. I’m guessing local authorities in Alma would be the way to do it, but it seems complicated, and I’d appreciate some guidance on that…

Probably not anything to worry about.

“The authorities – handle local authority record updates” job links up any non-linked bibliographic headings to any new local authority records you have created recently.

Unless you’re doing any kind of local authorities work, the job has not affect

I don’t recall that any our institutions are doing any kind of local authorities work.

I’m not sure why the job is dependent on the “synchronize changes from CZ” job. I’m sure there’s a reason.

In any case, looking at a couple of our Alma instances, the Sync Changes from CZ jobs appear to have caught up now, as of yesterday afternoon.

There are actually two jobs that are failing.

The first is “Synchronize changes from CZ job “ under the Data Services tab. The second job is under the Repository tab, and is titled  “Authorities - Handle Local Authority Record Updates”.

Is that also one we don’t have to worry about?

All this job does is update the information in the Community Zone Updates Task List.

Therefore, it runs at low priority, and completes as there are idle resources within the Alma Data Center.

And if you aren’t using the Community Zone Updates Task List (to see what community zone updates have occurred recently), the job has no impact on you at all.

ExL is still investigating it. The current consensus is that it's not that bad of an issue, as any data missed in a previous run is added to the next run. But I'm also not confident about seeing red flags every time I log into Alma.

Ex Libris replied this morning. They state that following jobs in that job set will pick up any information that fails in the previous job. I take this to mean that the full set of changes in the CZ are being synchronized after the final job but that, because Alma always tries to be helpful, we see those failures.

They said they'll continue to investigate, however.

Is anyone else seeing the "synchronize changes from CZ" job failing every three to four operations? The error is always the same: "This instance of the job is skipped since previous instance of the job is still running."

This started happening on the 6th - wasn't that when the November update was installed?
